IPL 2025 Put on Hold
Dharamshala (Himachal Pradesh) [India], May 9: Arun Dhumal, the chairman of the Indian Premier League (IPL), announced that the 18th season of the lucrative league has been temporarily halted for one week. The decision regarding its resumption will be made after evaluating the current circumstances.
On Friday, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) declared the immediate suspension of IPL 2025 due to the rising tensions between India and Pakistan.
In a statement regarding the IPL suspension, Dhumal mentioned, “The tournament will be on hold for a week. We will make further decisions after reviewing the situation.”
Additionally, he addressed the match between Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals, which was interrupted during the first innings at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association (HPCA) Stadium in Dharamshala. Fans were notified of the cancellation and asked to leave the venue, while both teams were safely escorted back to their accommodations.
“Given the escalation of the situation yesterday, we took measures to prevent any panic among the crowd and ensure public safety, leading to a smooth evacuation,” Dhumal explained.
A source from the BCCI revealed that a special Vande Bharat train was arranged to transport players from Delhi Capitals (DC), Punjab Kings (PBKS), and the entire broadcasting team from Dharamshala back to Delhi.
